April Update
Hi Everybody
Hope to find everyone with a hunger for the Lord. This month’s newsletter will be a little different from other months as we’re still in Magoe, Tete Province and I’m sitting in our bakkie typing on Erica’s laptop.
Since my last newsletter we received our bakkie back from gearbox repairs, packed everything again and headed into Moz for Magoe. The bakkie broke down again in the same town as the first breakdown, but this time we had to be loaded on a loadbed recovery truck to be brought back to White River. After unpacking everything, getting the bakkie repaired again, we packed again and tried again. This time everything went smoothly and I could preach at our church in Chicorroa over Easter Weekend. Just after Easter we hit the road to Magoe and have been here since. The road from the Save River to Inchope is in bad condition and that’s putting it nicely. The driving, especially by other road users, is scary to say the least, but God brought us safely to Magoe.
Our focus on this visit was to spend quality time with Beto and Nelson to encourage and strengthen them, install a solar power system for the Liveschool, give Liveschool facilitator training, read through the New Testament and Psalms out loud in the church building and start Intercession prayer meetings with members of the Magoe congregation. Every time I come here I’m hit with the reality of the spiritual breakthroughs that are needed from the Lord in this place. You so deeply become aware of the need for the whole armor of God and to fight the good fight of faith. Magoe is a ‘religious’ place because there are a lot of groups active in the area, but almost all of them are traditional African religion groups (demonic) or groups lead by false prophets who don’t use the Bible at all, hence why we wanted to read through the New Testament and Psalms in an audible manner as a spiritual weapon during this time.
Although we had all these things to do, we also continued to help Beto and Nelson with their normal ministry activities. We had opportunity to preach in the church, the local market, the hospital, the local prison and Erica even shared with the ladies in a women’s meeting while Beto also continued with his weekly radio program. All of this obviously came with its disappointments and challenges as attendance and responses aren’t always as favorable as one would wish. In the end we have to keep our eyes on Jesus and be willing to do it for one, but it’s not always easy.
There are so many more little stories to share, but circumstances, time and space won’t make that possible. I’ll send some photos that might tell a few more stories of a thousand words.
In Chicorroa, Kobus and Noe also went on a weekend outreach to Chacane to continue with the Church plant there.
Please continue to pray for us. We love you.
